Willmar Post Prom needs volunteers to go on

WILLMAR -- Without volunteers, the post-prom party for Willmar juniors and seniors could be cancelled.

Janell Olson, director of Willmar Post Prom, said this week that she needs about 50 volunteers to make the party work.

So far, just a few people have volunteered to work at the party, and she needs more help to provide the party, which provides a safe, drug-free and alcohol-free evening for students.

Volunteers are often parents of juniors and seniors, but anyone is welcome to volunteer, Olson said.

The prom is on April 30, and the party begins at midnight and runs until 4 a.m. at the Kandi Entertainment Center. It is open to all Willmar juniors and seniors, even those who do not attend prom.

For an admission of charge of $15, all food, beverages and activities are provided for the students during the party. Activities include bowling, video games, blackjack, bungee run, sand volleyball and massages. The evening concludes with a hypnotist show.

Many prizes donated by the community are also given away during the party.

Volunteers are needed to chaperone, to work the registration desk and to help manage games. For people who can't help the night of the party, "there are lots of things we need done before," Olson said.
