Willmar's iPad fundraising campaign has Monday open house
WILLMAR -- The iCardinals Campaign raising funds from the community to provide individual Apple iPad tablet computers for students at Willmar Senior High will have an informational open house from 5 to 6 p.m. Monday at the Willmar Senior High Theater.
The meeting is open to the public.
The campaign has met nearly 70 percent of its goal, according to a release from the campaign.
The goal has been reset, as the price has dropped on the version of iPads the district plans to use. The new goal is $318,000. More than $217,000 has been raised in the past two months by the community group.
The Willmar School District will match the funds raised in the community campaign.
The school district plans to provide one-on-one iPads to all juniors and seniors beginning in the fall. If fundraising is successful, freshmen and sophomores would receive iPads in the following year.
The campaign hopes to make the same technology available to all students, regardless of family income. School officials have said they feel the technology will help prepare students for higher education and for the workforce.
