Fire destroys shed near Raymond

RAYMOND — Raymond firefighters extinguished a blaze that destroyed what was described as an older, granary shed at a farmsite Wednesday evening on the 4100 block of 105th Street Southwest, roughly six miles northeast of Raymond.

The initial call at 8:17 p.m. indicated a barn was on fire, and calls for possible assistance were made to the Pennock, Prinsburg and Willmar fire departments. They were cancelled when it was determined the blaze was confined to the shed and that other structures were not threatened.

The shed held firewood that was used by an outdoor wood stove located nearby.

Raymond Fire Chief Kraig Kienitz said firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the blaze. The cause of the fire was not determined, but firefighters believe a spark may have escaped the wood-fired heating system and ignited the firewood.

SPICER — A woman reported at 9:38 p.m. Wednesday that her wallet was stolen while at a restaurant on the 100 block of Lake Avenue South in Spicer.

WILLMAR — A Willmar resident on Wednesday afternoon reported the theft of items from a vehicle while it was parked at a location on the 700 block of 19th Avenue Southeast.
