One person missing after apartment building fire in Alexandria

ALEXANDRIA, Minn. - One person was missing after a fire broke out early Monday, Jan. 15, at a residence near downtown Alexandria.

The Alexandria Fire Department was called to 410 Fillmore Street just before 5:30 a.m., the Alexandria Police Department said in a news release.

Firefightersfrom Alexandria and neighboring towns were still working in subzero temperatures hours later to contain the fire.

The building has multiple apartments and most of the residents were able to escape.

The name of the individual unaccounted for was not being released Monday morning and the police department asked the community not to post any names on social media until all correct information is learned and proper notifications can be made to respective family.

The fire forced the closure of some downtown streets during the Monday morning commute.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and North Memorial Ambulance also responded.
