Kandi Power crews working on power outage, problem not known

SPICER — Crews from the Kandiyohi Power Cooperative and Great River Energy are working to get electricity restored to the cooperative’s customers, but have not been able to identify the problem affecting a power transmission line.

According to Dave George, the CEO of Kandi Power, crews began working on the outage after seven of 10 substations lost power earlier this afternoon. They had restored power to all but one substation, but then lost the power again after about 20 minutes. Around 3:45 p.m., crews had restored power to 7 of 10 substations.

The crews are trying to figure out why the high voltage transmission line isn’t working, George said, as there is no apparent problem.

The situation is “perplexing,” he said, and that he hadn’t run into such a problem in 40 years of working in the power industry.

“We are doing the best we can, to try and keep people’s power on,” he said. “We are trying to figure out the problem.”
