WILLMAR -- The Willmar Care Center announced Tuesday that it has postponed closing the facility until a later date.

Deseret Health Group of Utah, the owner of the 52-bed skilled nursing facility, made the announcement last week that it will close the Willmar Care Center on Aug. 31 and transition the residents to other nursing homes of their choice.

Deseret did not set a new date for when the facility will close. Officials said the postponement will allow more time for the transition to take place.

"We have made this decision to better the process for our residents' relocations," Willmar Care Center officials said in a statement issued Tuesday.

The nursing home, at 500 Russell Ave. N.W., is one of four long-term care facilities in Willmar. It has been under sanction for issues involving quality of care but was found to be back in compliance during its most recent state survey this spring.
