Rural Danube man airlifted from accident

OLIVIA - A rural Danube man was airlifted to North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale with critical injuries following a two-vehicle collision at 7:56 a.m. Thursday about three-fourths of a mile north of Olivia.

Travis D. Zuidema, 33, of rural Danube, was ejected from his vehicle and treated at the scene by responders with the Olivia Ambulance before being airlifted by North Air Care, according to the Renville County Sheriff's Office.

Zuidema was driving a 1995 Dodge pickup southbound on 330th Street when it collided at the intersection with 830th Avenue with a 1994 GMC Suburban driven westbound by Martin C. Minkel, 18, of Olivia.

The collision sent both vehicles into the ditch, where they struck a utility pole and Zuidema was ejected.

Both drivers were treated at the scene for their injuries. Minkel was transported by ambulance to the RC Hospital in Olivia, where he was treated and released.

Both vehicles were totaled.

The Renville County Sheriff's Office is investigating the crash. The Minnesota State Patrol is assisting with reconstruction.

Also assisting at the scene were the Olivia Police Department and Fire Department and Xcel Energy.

Motorcyclist hurt in New London accident

NEW LONDON - A 32-year-old New London man driving a motorcycle suffered serious injuries in a broadside collision at 6:33 p.m. Friday at the intersection of Main Street Northeast (Minnesota Highway 9) and Second Avenue in New London.

Michael James Knutson was transported to Centre Care, St. Cloud, for the injuries he suffered in the accident, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

Joseph Schaeffer, 41, of New London, was driving a 1996 Chevrolet pickup on First Avenue Northwest and crossing Minnesota Highway 9 to go eastbound on First Avenue Northeast. Knutson was driving a 1982 Yamaha Road Star motorcycle northbound on Minnesota Highway 9.

The pickup struck the motorcycle at a right angle. The motorcycle was partially under the truck, according to the State Patrol.

Knutson was not wearing a helmet. He had no alcohol in his system.

Alcohol was detected on Schaeffer, according to the accident report.

Motorcyclist hurt in Lake Lillian crash

LAKE LILLIAN - A Lake Lillian man was injured on his 2002 Yamaha Road Star motorcycle at 7:40 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of Big Kandiyohi Drive and 123rd Avenue Southeast and 123rd Avenue Southeast at the Kandiyohi County Park 2.

Ryan Matthew Leikvoll, 34, of Lake Lillian, was transported to Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar for cuts to his head and arm.

Two-vehicle collision

WILLMAR - No serious injuries were reported when two vehicles collided at 7:42 a.m. Saturday near the intersection of 25th Street Southeast and U.S. Highway 12 East in Willmar.

Bryan Kodet, 35, of Belgrade, was westbound on U.S. Highway 12 in a 1996 semi-tractor truck without a trailer. George Grussing, 73, of Willmar, was crossing U.S. Highway 12 at 25th Street Southeast in a 2000 Ford Ranger pickup when the front of the pickup hit the driver's side back wheel of the semi-tractor.

One injured in Willmar collision

WILLMAR - Richard Baumann, 54, of Deephaven, was transported to Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar for injuries he suffered in a collision at 2:14 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of Willmar Avenue and 15th Street Southwest in Willmar.

Baumann was driving a 2007 Toyota 4Runner eastbound on Willmar Avenue Southwest. Dicky Nichols, 26, of Pennock, was driving a 1993 Cadillac Deville northbound on 15th Street Southwest when it struck the Toyota.

Pop strewn about roadway

WILLMAR - Many cases of soda pop were lost from a truck and disrupted traffic at 7:24 a.m. Saturday on First Street South near 19th Avenue in Willmar.

An 18-year-old Clara City man was driving a 2001 Ford SRW Super Duty pickup when the cases of pop were lost, with several of the cases spilling on the roadway.

Driver stuck in ditch

ATWATER - Kandiyohi County sheriff's officers responded to a complaint at 12:11 a.m. Sunday that an apparently intoxicated male driver was stuck in a ditch along Kandiyohi County Road 10 near Atwater.

A motorist reported the driver of an older model Ford had almost struck him before going into the ditch. The caller said the man was revving the engine and attempting to drive away.


SPICER - A vandal or vandals kicked out the supports to a small bridge and tipped over a port-a-potty at the Lake Calhoun outlet between Indian Beach Road and Kandiyohi County Road 4 on Green Lake in Spicer. The incident was reported Sunday morning.

WILLMAR - A window was broken out of an entrance door on a apartment building on the 500 block of Lakeland Drive Southeast, it was reported Saturday morning.

A camera captured photos of a suspect writing on the wall of the building during the night.

Disorderly conduct

WILLMAR - A 47-year-old Fargo, N.D., man was taken into custody and charged with disorderly conduct after Willmar police responded to a complaint shortly before midnight Saturday on the 700 block of Monongalia Avenue in Willmar.

The intoxicated suspect began banging on the doors of a residence before doing the same to a vehicle parked there.

Fight call

RAYMOND - Kandiyohi County sheriff's officers responded to prevent an altercation from escalating shortly before 8 p.m. Saturday at a residence near the corner of Second Avenue and Fourth Street in Raymond.

A number of men were yelling and pushing each other. An intoxicated 19-year-old man was accused of seeking to fight.

Fireworks confiscated

WILLMAR - A Willmar man's illegal fireworks were confiscated after police responded to a citizen's call stating he believed he had heard a gun fired at 1:09 a.m. Sunday near the 900 block of 19th Avenue Southeast.

A responding officer observed aerial fireworks. The owner admitted to possessing illegal fireworks.

All accounted for in mishap

SPICER - Residents on South Long Lake reported seeing a person fall off and a personal watercraft and a canoe capsize in an incident at 12:13 p.m. Saturday on the lake.

All involved were subsequently accounted for.

Gun complaint

RAYMOND - An alert was issued after a motorist reported that a handgun, believed to be a 9 millimeter, was pointed out of another car around 7:24 p.m. Friday on Kandiyohi County Road 7 near 195th Avenue Southwest, Raymond.

Three occupants in the suspect vehicle, described as a 2004 Chevrolet Impala, were headed toward Clara City.
