Willmar Utilities traces outage to faulty cable

WILLMAR -- A fault in a wire in a three-wire cable located underground between Payless Shoes and New 2 You Thrift Store on South First Street in Willmar caused a partial power outage to 13 customers this afternoon, said a Willmar Municipal Utilities spokesman.

The outage began at 12:02 p.m. and lasted until about 1:25 p.m. Jeff Kimpling, utility electric services manager, said customers including Cash Wise Foods and Bremer Bank had partial power.

At 1:05 p.m., power was completely shut down to three customers for 15 to 20 minutes and then restored to switch feed directions.

Kimpling said work will be underway this afternoon and evening to replace the piece of faulty cable.
