Willmar, Minn., names Ledeboer public works superintendent
WILLMAR -- Scott Ledeboer, who has worked 36 years for the city of Willmar, has been appointed public works director by City Administrator Charlene Stevens.
The appointment was effective Monday and Stevens announced the appointment at the Tuesday afternoon meeting of the City Council's Public Works/Safety Committee.
Ledeboer replaces long-time superintendent Ron Gilbertson who retired July 8.
Stevens said Ledeboer was the top choice among two candidates interviewed. She said the appointment is a very good thing for Ledeboer and for the department.
Ledeboer said Wednesday that he is excited to start the new position and is familiar with what happens in the department.
He started in March 1977 as an equipment operator in what was formerly called the street department. In 1988, he was named working foreman. In 1993, the street department and the parks department were merged and became the Public Works Department, where he continued as working foreman.
As superintendent, Ledeboer will supervise and coordinate the job duties of 20 full-time staff and 13 seasonal staff, and oversee parks, streets, sewer collection system, brush site, trees, signs, swimming pool and snow removal.
