Gas line struck

WILLMAR — Willmar firefighters responded shortly after noon Friday when a road contractor struck a residential gas line on Sixth Street Southwest about one block east of the entrance to the Kennedy Elementary School in Willmar.

Duininck Companies workers were grinding the road surface when the machine struck a metal, residential gas line that was embedded in the asphalt, and not in a trench under the road, according to Willmar Fire Chief Gary Hendrickson.

Workers with CenterPoint Energy also responded and were able to excavate a valve and stop the leak.

No injuries were reported in the incident.

Two injured

in crash

MARSHALL — Two drivers suffered what were described as non-life-threatening injuries in a two-vehicle collision at 9:39 a.m. Friday on Minnesota Highway 23 at the intersection with Lyon County Road 9, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

Anthony Vanuden, 75, of Cottonwood, was westbound on the highway in a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and waiting to turn southbound onto the county road.

Judy Raske, 56, of Cosmos, was driving a 2008 Toyota Camry westbound on the highway when the two vehicles collided.

Both drivers were transported to the Avera Marshall Regional Medical Center in Marshall. Both had been wearing seat belts, and the air bag had deployed in the Toyota, according to the accident report.

Bus strikes garage in Litchfield

LITCHFIELD — The driver of a Meeker Public Transit bus was transported by ambulance after the bus he was driving struck the garage attached to a home around 11:30 a.m. Friday on the 700 block of South Geinitz Avenue in Litchfield.

The condition of the driver, identified in a web posting by the Litchfield Independent as Dale Swartz of Litchfield, was not known. Meeker Public Transit Director Donna Anderson said she could not comment on the accident.

The Independent reported that the only passenger in the bus at the time of the accident was a 3-year-old girl and she was not injured.

The bus apparently struck and uprooted a tree before crashing into the garage and coming to a stop.

Underage consumption

WILLMAR — Law officers issued citations for underage consumption and an alleged violation of the social host ordinance when responding to a report of a gathering of young people at 11:10 p.m. Thursday at a residence east of Raymond.

Willmar police issued citations for underage consumption after responding to a report of loud music and yelling at a residence on the 3000 block of Seventh Avenue Northwest at 12:49 a.m. Friday in Willmar.

Criminal damage to property

SPICER — Damage was reported to a residence on the 9000 block of 80th Street Northeast, Spicer, after it was reported the home had been TP’d and egged sometime before 10 p.m. Thursday.
