SPICER — A television was reported stolen on Friday from a trailer parked on the 8100 block of North Shore Drive, Spicer.

WILLMAR — A man and woman with a baby were alleged to have been shoplifting items at the Wal-Mart Superstore on Friday. The suspects were taking mostly clothing items.

WILLMAR — Police are investigating reports that a woman has been presenting fake coupons at supermarkets in the area, including the Willmar Cash Wise store on Friday.


WILLMAR — Someone cut a fence and stole a battery from a business on the 1400 block of Litchfield Avenue Southeast, Willmar, it was reported Friday.

Three area residents hurt

in Pipestone County crash

PIPESTONE — Three area residents were among five people injured in a two-vehicle, head-on collision at 3:04 p.m. Wednesday on Minnesota Highway 23 at 81st Street in Pipestone County, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

Jonas Christianson, 23, of Milton, was driving a 1998 Ford Ranger northbound on Highway 23 when he lost control on the ice and crossed into the southbound lane. The Ranger collided with a 2013 Hyundai Sonata driven by Paula Hodge, 59, of Willmar. Hodge and passengers Donald Groth, 67, and Linda Lorenzen-Groth, 61, both of Kerkhoven, suffered what the Patrol describes as non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to the Pipestone County Medical Center.

Christianson and a passenger in his vehicle, Anastasia Held, 24, of Garretson, S.D., also suffered non-life threatening injuries and were transported to the Pipestone County Medical Center, the Patrol said.

The airbags in both vehicles were deployed, and both vehicles were totaled, according to the accident report.

Kandiyohi County

 Mohamed Ahmed Omar, 27, of Willmar, was sentenced to a stayed prison sentence Friday on a felony burglary charge.

Omar had pleaded guilty in November to second-degree burglary for his role in breaking into an apartment on Sept. 10 on the southwest side of the city.

A gross misdemeanor count of theft and a misdemeanor count of property damage were dismissed.

Omar was sentenced to 28 months in prison, but that was stayed for 10 years. He was also given credit for 109 days served in jail.

Omar will serve 10 years on probation and was given a number of conditions to follow. They included paying restitution of $600, remaining law-abiding, participating in victim/offender mediation and writing a letter of apology.

Judge David Mennis also ordered Omar to begin working toward earning a GED and to obtain the GED by June 1, 2015. He is to provide updates to the probation department.

Omar and Farah Hirsi Awale, 19, of Willmar, were charged with the burglary of an apartment on Ninth Street Southwest in Willmar.

A witness reported seeing the two men enter the apartment and leave with items which were put in the trunk of a car. The witness also took photos of the men as they left.

A police officer found the vehicle and the men matching the witness’s description in downtown Willmar, and the witness identified them. A search of the car produced a game system and accessories and a laptop computer.
