Many area schools will be closed Tuesday

WILLMAR — Many school districts in the area will be closed again Tuesday, as brutally cold temperatures and wind chills continue to plague Minnesota. Other districts will be starting two hours late.

Schools were closed today by order of Gov. Mark Dayton, but Dayton said the decision was up to individual school districts for Tuesday.

In addition to the cold temperatures, many area roads are dangerously icy due to freezing rain last weekend.

The National Weather Service has issued a wind chill advisory for the area through noon Tuesday. Wind chills are expected to be as low as 55 degrees below zero, which is considered dangerous.

As of 4 p.m. Monday, the following school districts had called off school on Tuesday: Willmar (including Community Christian), New London-Spicer, ACGC, BOLD, Buffalo Lake/Hector/Stewart, Clarkfield Area, Eden Valley/Watkins, MACCRAY, Montevideo, Paynesville, Renville County West and Yellow Medicine East.

Benson, Dawson-Boyd and Lac qui Parle Valley announced that they would be starting school two hours late.
