PICER — Registration is now open for the 2014 Willmar/Spicer Polar Bear Plunge at 1 p.m. Jan. 25 at Saulsbury Beach, 151 Lake Ave. S., in Spicer. The event is held annually to raise money for Special Olympics Minnesota.
Check-in will be Jan. 24 at the Spicer American Legion, 155 Lake Ave. S. in Spicer. Check-in will also be held on plunge day at the Spicer Legion.
Organizers say funds raised benefit approximately 7,800 Special Olympics Minnesota athletes as they train, compete and transform themselves and their communities. In 2013, more than 400 people took the plunge and raised approximately $79,760 in support of Special Olympics Minnesota.
Participants register online at plungemn.org. Participants may plunge as individuals or in teams. They are encouraged to wear unique and outrageous costumes on plunge day.
Each participant must raise a minimum of $75 in donations. The average plunger raised $210 in 2013. On plunge day, participants are asked to bring their pledges. Shoes and towel are required.
