Rural Watkins home burns, renters escape injury

WATKINS — Two people escaped injury in a house fire reported around 10:45 p.m. Monday in Forest City Township.

According to the Meeker County Sheriff’s Office, fire departments from Watkins, Eden Valley, Kimball and Litchfield responded to the blaze at 33183 County Road 2.

The house was owned by Thomas and Marie Moyer of Watkins and was being rented by Wayne Erstad, 63, and Celestino Deliz, 59. Wayne Erstad called and reported that he noticed smoke coming from the basement area of the house. The house and property inside were soon engulfed in flames and were a total loss. The personal property in the house was valued at $10,000. The value of the house is unknown at this time.

The cause is yet to be determined and the State Fire Marshal was contacted about the house fire.

Also responding were the Litchfield Police Department and Gold Cross Ambulance.


WILLMAR — The theft of a construction trailer was reported around 8 a.m. Tuesday along the 1800 block of Willmar Avenue Southwest.

District Court, Kandiyohi County

- Joey Anthony Wolf, 31, of Willmar, pleaded guilty and was sentenced Tuesday on a felony charge of fifth-degree drug sale for selling 8.6 grams of marijuana to an informant for the CEE-VI Drug Task Force.

Wolf was ordered to pay a $500 fine and to serve a year of probation. He was given a stay of adjudication on his sentence. Under the stay, no conviction will appear on his record unless he fails to meet the conditions of probation.

The charge was filed after the informant purchased the marijuana from Wolf on April 24 at a residence along Fourth Street Southeast for $120. The informant identified Wolf by a Department of Vehicle Services photo.
