State Habitat for Humanity conference begins Thursday

WILLMAR — Representatives from 25 of 32 Minnesota Habitat for Humanity affiliates will receive updates on best practices, volunteer management and communications among other topics at the annual Minnesota Habitat for Humanity conference Thursday and Friday in Willmar.

A state Habitat for Humanity spokeswoman said more than 130 people will gather at the Holiday Inn Express for the conference.

Nichole Axtman, who is special events and communications manager for Habitat for Humanity of Minnesota, said Willmar is a more central location for all affiliates.

Axtman said Paul Reasoner of Cambridge will speak Thursday about his fundraising efforts on behalf of the Habitat program in Cebu, Philippines. Reasoner has ridden eight times in the Habitat 500 Bike Ride fundraiser.

Reasoner will speak during the noon Meager Meal.

The meal will consist of soup, bread and water.

Money saved on the meal will be used for Habitat efforts in Cebu.

Other events Thursday will include a 3:15 p.m. tour showcasing the impact of local affiliate Habitat for Humanity of West Central Minnesota on the community, including A Brush with Kindness projects and new construction.

At 9 a.m. Friday, managers of ReStore affiliates from around the state can tour the West Central affiliate’s new ReStore location on First Street South where donated construction materials are for sale.

Habitat for Humanity of Minnesota is a statewide resource development and support organization that serves, advocates for, and advances the work of affiliates to build simple, decent, affordable housing in partnership with people in need.
