District Court, Kandiyohi County

- Tracy Ellen Guerrero, 32, of Willmar, was sentenced Tuesday to five years of probation, 90 days in jail and a $1,500 fine on a felony charge of theft for attempting to shoplift more than $1,700 in merchandise from the local Target store.

The charge was filed after Aug. 22, when the shoplifting case was reported to Willmar Police. Loss prevention agents at the store provided the responding officer with video footage of Guerrero, showing her taking empty Target shopping bags into the store and filling them with jewelry, clothing and other items. The surveillance footage showed Guerrero moving from department to department, taking items and putting them into the bags in her cart. She was stopped at the exit door by the loss prevention agent.

Guerrero told the officer that during prior shoplifting incidents, she had been high, but that this time, she was sober. Store officials provided police with receipts to tally the cost of the merchandise, which was $1,773.41 before tax was added.
