Snow, strong winds will make difficult travel conditions in Willmar area

WILLMAR — Snow and strong, gusting winds will make travel difficult through the day in west central Minnesota, with hazardous conditions forecast for areas north and east of Alexandria.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation is reporting difficult road conditions in an area north of Alexandria and running northeast to Duluth, where eight or more inches of snow are possible.

The Willmar area could see up to four inches of snow, and there’s a chance that freezing rain could be part of the mix starting this afternoon. Winds of 20 miles per hour with gusts of 30 miles per hour and more are likely in the afternoon.

The National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory for west central Minnesota through the day.

Snow amounts will vary from one to four inches in the region. A band of snow and strong winds will make for difficult conditions on a path running from Montevideo northeast to St. Cloud.
