WCCO-TV will perform a "test run" of its digital transmission Wednesday from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. on its northern transmitter serving viewers of KCCO Channel 7 and KCCW Channel 12.
The traditional analog transmission will not be available during this 15-hour testing period. The test will affect all viewers that watch KCCO/KCCW over the air on analog TV's. Cable and satellite subscribers should not be affected.
In order to watch the digital channel over the air, viewers will need either a DTV converter box or a digital television set. The test is intended to give viewers a chance to test their converter boxes and digital televisions before the permanent switch to digital signals.
This is a single day test in preparation for the Feb. 17, 2009, transition date, and not an early digital conversion. A second test is scheduled for Jan. 17, 2009.
WCCO will provide a phone bank the day of the test run staffed with experts to answer viewer concerns.
Viewers can go to www.wcco.com/digital for additional information a-bout the transition.
