U.S. Highway concrete rehabilitation project has started in Willmar, expect detours
Motorists looking to use U.S. Highway 12 in Willmar this morning found they had to use the back streets. A concrete rehabilitation project began today from the railroad bridge overpass near 11th Street Southwest to 7th Street Southwest and from Dolson Street Southeast to 6th Street Southeast.
The project, which will repair the concrete surface of the highway, is scheduled to be com-pleted the middle of the month, according to Diane Beck, the Public Affairs Coordinator for the Minnesota Department of Transportation District 8 office in Willmar.
Detour signs erected on the outskirts of Willmar directing east and west bound traffic on Highway 12 to the correct route.
No detour signs were installed for in-town traffic in Willmar, said Beck. MnDOT and city offi-cials determined that local drivers would be able to find alternate routes for the short duration of the project, she said.
The eastbound detour directs traffic south on Kandiyohi County Road 5, east on State High-way 23, and then north on the Highway 23/71 bypass to Highway 12.
The westbound detour directs traffic south on the Highway 23/71 bypass and then west on Highway 23 to Kandiyohi County Road 5, then north to Highway 12.
