Volunteers sought for 3 p.m. clean-up at Spicer ball park

SPICER -- Volunteers are being asked to pitch in with clean-up of the Green Lake Diamond at 3 p.m. today in Spicer.

The ball park was damaged yesterday in a tornado that ripped through the south part of town. The storm damaged fences, a small press box, the batting cages at the diamond. Nearly all of the 35 sponsor signs that were on the fences also went flying.

John Vraa, activities and community ed director for the New London-Spicer School District, said volunteers are needed to "pick up branches, recover ad signs, cut loose and fold all fence covers, and hopefully untangle the batting cages."

The work should last about two hours, he said.

Volunteers are asked to bring rakes, wire cutters and gloves.
