City of tents forms overnight at Sonshine grounds

On Tuesday, only a handful of diehard festival goers dotted the Sonshine Festival grounds on the northeastern edge of Willmar. Today, thousands were there setting up makeshift shelters to take them through the next four days. Gusts of wind caused some smaller tents to take flight.

Josh Quittem of the Hosanna Lutheran Church youth group of Mankato struggled to assemble one of many tents this morning. Once the group had it assembled, a gust of wind didn't hesitate to blow it over.

"It says easy-up, but it's not so easy," said Quittem of the tent.

The first concert of the annual Christian music festival is tonight, with a free show by Switchfoot at 7 p.m.

Sonshine officially kicks off tomorrow, with the opening of big top tents for the kids, food and beverage stands, a skate park, and concerts starting at 11 a.m.
