Public hearing on nuisance ordinance amendment set for Tuesday county board meeting

WILLMAR -- The Kandiyohi County Commissioners will hold a public hearing at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Health and Human Services building on a proposed amendment to the county's nuisance ordinance regarding trespassing and littering.

The hearing will be part of the Commissioners' regular board meeting.

If approved, the amendment would give law enforcement a tool to use for dealing with unwanted homecoming pranks, like putting toilette paper in trees or shaving cream on windows. Individuals could be charged with a petty misdemeanor which carries a $300 fine.

The Kandiyohi County Attorney and Sheriff wrote and proposed the amendment following an incident last year in rural Willmar when a homeowner sprayed fox urine from a squirt gun on youths who were attempting to get onto his property during Willmar High School's homecoming week.

Other items on the agenda include a proposed lease agreement with the Humane Society of Kandiyohi County, action on an option to sell two buildings on the former Willmar Regional Treatment Center campus to MinnWest Technology and a tax levy request from the Housing and Redevelopment Authority.

At 11:15 a.m., the Commissioners will hear a final report on the proposed 2010 budget and levy.

The commissioners will meet as the family services board at 9 a.m. where they'll hear a report on the Willmar Community Senior Network, the NACO prescription drug discount card and hear an update on the Minnesota Association of County Social Service Administrators.

The Commissioners meet on the second floor of the Health and Human Services Building, located at 2200 23 St NE.
