Interviews set for today for Willmar police chief finalists

WILLMAR — Interviews are set for 9 a.m. today at Willmar City Offices to fill the vacant position of police chief that was created by the recent retirement of David Wyffels.

Willmar City Administrator Charlene Stevens said the interviews are not open to the public because a quorum of the City Council will not be present for the interviews.

The interviews will be held in the second floor conference room with Captain James E. Felt of the Willmar Police Department and David A. Kvam, commander of patrol operations with the Maplewood Police Department. Felt will be first and Kvam will be second.

The interview committee consists of Stevens, Willmar Fire Chief Gary Hendrickson, Kandiyohi County Sheriff Dan Hartog, City Councilman Ron Christianson, and Dennis Anfinson, chair of the Police Commission.

Stevens said she is not sure if she would have a recommendation ready for Monday night’s City Council meeting. Stevens said she hopes to have a decision shortly thereafter the interviews.
