Crash kills one near Regal

REGAL –– A two-vehicle crash Saturday afternoon near Regal killed a 21-year old man and injured two other men.

Authorities say all three were from the Paynesville area, but the names of those involved have not been released.

The accident was reported at 4 p.m. Saturday on Kandiyohi County Road 2 and 270th Avenue Northeast, about two miles south of Regal.

The vehicles collided in a T-bone type accident and both vehicles ended up in a drainage ditch in about three feet of water.

The vehicles landed on their wheels.

According to information from the sheriff’s department, the vehicles included a heavy-duty one-ton commercial work truck with a driver and two passengers, and a BMW four-door sedan.

No one in the truck was injured.

The three men in the BMW had to be extricated from the vehicle.

A passenger was airlifted from the accident scene and taken to the St. Cloud Hospital, where he later died of his injuries.

The other two individuals were taken by ground ambulance to the Paynesville Hospital and one was reportedly airlifted to St. Cloud Hospital.

No further information about the victims was available Sunday night.

Authorities said the accident remains under investigation, with the State Patrol recreating the accident scene.

County Road 2 is a paved road where vehicles have the right-of-way in that area, while 270th Avenue Northeast is marked as a minimum maintenance road with stop signs at the intersection.
