Heat advisory in effect across west central Minnesota
A heat advisory is in effect across all of central and southern Minnesota until 9 p.m. tonight, with an excessive heat warning in effect for the Twin Cities Metro Area.
“High Temperatures will reach the lower 90s this afternoon, this combined with oppressive dew points in the middle to upper 70s will result in heat indices ranging from 100 to 110 degrees,” according to the advisory warning issued by the National Weather Service. “The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will create a situation in which heat illnesses are possible.”
Alongside the heat advisory the National Weather Service predicts a slight chance for severe thunderstorms rolling in tonight throughout central Minnesota. These storms may bring heavy rainfall, damaging winds and large hail.
