Sessions slated Tuesday to gather feedback for Willmar parks plan
WILLMAR — The city of Willmar is seeking input from several targeted audiences in the community next week on a master plan for the city parks.
Seniors, members of the Latino and Somali communities, dog park enthusiasts and leaders involved with youth sports are especially invited to participate Tuesday when SRF Consulting hosts a series of focus group discussions.
SRF was contracted by the city last month to create a master plan for the Willmar Park System’s 37 parks. Stewart Crosby from SRF will host the sessions, which are the next step in developing a plan.
Steve Brisendine, Willmar Community Education and Recreation director, said this first series of discussions is seeking input from some targeted groups and park stakeholders, and another round of discussions with the general public will be conducted at a later date.
The sessions Tuesday will be at the Jefferson Learning Center, 1234 Kandiyohi Ave. S.W. in Willmar. The schedule that day is as follows:
9 to 10:30 a.m. — Members of the Vision 2040 community visioning effort;
10:45 to 11:45 a.m. — Members of the Latino and Somali communities;
Noon to 1 p.m. — Community Education and Recreation Joint Powers Board;
1:30 to 2:30 p.m. — Leaders of youth sports and activities associations;
2:30 to 3 p.m. — Dog park enthusiasts;
3 to 3:45 p.m. — Residents over 55 years of age.
Brisendine said it’s an important planning process for the community, and they want to hear what the parks mean to people. Anyone who would like to participate in one of these sessions is asked to contact him at 320-231-8494.
