Christianson, Bjur file for Ward 2 City Council seat

WILLMAR -- Two people have filed for the Willmar City Council seat in Ward 2. They are incumbent Ron Christianson and challenger Andrew Bjur.

Christianson was first elected to the council in 1994 and is completing his 16th year on the council. He is a graduate of Willmar High School and the drafting and design program at Willmar Area Vocational Technical Institute. He is co-owner of Christianson Brothers Construction of Willmar and is an Air Force veteran.

Christianson serves as City Council liaison to the Willmar Housing and Redevelopment Authority Board. He serves on the Community Development Committee, on the Convention and Visitors Bureau Board and on the WRAC-8 Board.

Bjur is project architect for Engan Associates of Willmar. He is a Willmar High School graduate, and received his bachelor's degree in architecture and his bachelor of science degree in environmental design, both from North Dakota State University.

Bjur serves on the Willmar Design Center's Connections Committee and is former chairman of the Willmar Planning Commission and former chairman of the Willmar Education and Recreation Advisory Board.

For the Ward 4 City Council position, incumbent Doug Reese has filed for re-election. Reese is national representative of the Christian Labor Association in Willmar. He was elected to the council in 1986 and is completing his 24th year. He is chairman of the council's Public Works/Safety Committee.

Four City Council positions and the office of mayor will be filled in the November general election. Council members and the mayor serve four-year terms.
