Prison stay revoked for 23-year-old Sartell man for having sexual relationship with teen

WILLMAR -- Derrick Jose Arredondo, 23, of Sartell, was ordered to serve 48 months in prison, with an additional 10-year conditional release period, on a third-degree criminal sexual conduct charge for having a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old girl in Willmar.

The stay of execution on Arredondo's sentence was revoked Tuesday in Kandiyohi County District Court. He had received the stayed prison sentence on Aug. 16, but appeared in court again just days later on another criminal sexual conduct charge for getting a different 14-year-old girl pregnant.

As part of the sentence in the first case, Arredondo was ordered to have no contact with juvenile fe-males, but allegedly te-xted the pr-egnant girl just hours after he was sentenced. The texting communication included 13 texts, over five hours, between Arredondo and the girl.

According to the order by Judge Michael J. Thompson, Arredondo admitted to the probation violation at the Aug. 23 hearing. In the order, Thompson concluded that Arredondo is a "controlling predator" of young girls who had shown he would continue to have contact with young, vulnerable females.

The first charge was filed after a man reported to Willmar police that his 14-year-old daughter was receiving harassing text messages and calls from a man in Willmar.

The man suspected the girl was having sex with the man, identified as Arredondo. Both the girl and Arredondo told police they had had sex and Arredondo said he knew how old the girl was.

The girl's mother had learned of the relationship and ended it.

The second charge was filed after Willmar police received information Aug. 12 from a police department in Oregon that a girl, now 15, had a sexual relationship with Arredondo and was in the third trimester of pregnancy with his baby.

The girl lived with her father in Kandiyohi County until June and kept in contact with Arredondo via e-mail and on Facebook. She told investigators in Oregon she had had sex with Arredondo in Willmar on many occasions and that he knew she was carrying his child.
