Update: ACGC students stage all-day sit-in protest over proposed elementary closure

GROVE CITY - A planned protest by students at Atwater-Grove City-Cosmos High School this morning fell short of expectations as only a dozen students and one mother are participating in an all-day sit-in to protest the proposed closure of the district's South Elementary in Cosmos.

The students praised the elementary school and said it should be kept open because of the excellent education opportunities and small class sizes.

The district is considering closing the elementary to save the cash-strapped district money.

Superintendent Sherri Broderius said the students don't have all the facts concerning the district's financial situation, but she hoped the students learned a lesson through the process of their protest.

The students will face a disciplinary action for unexcused absence for each class missed today.

The school board is expected to make a decision Monday night on the future of the ACGC South Elementary in Cosmos.
