County certifies preliminary 2012 budget

WILLMAR -- The Kandiyohi County Commissioners approved a proposed 2.6 percent increase in taxes for 2012 at their meeting today.

County Administrator Larry Kleindl said 2.1 percent of that tax increase was because of "cuts and shifts" in state funding that affects the county budget.

The county is using reserve funds to make up for part of the state funding cuts to keep taxes from increasing more.

The county's net levy for the 2012 budget is $28,136,418.

Many of the county department budgets were kept at the same funding level, said Kleindl.
