Man injured in Willmar rollover, faces DUI charges
WILLMAR – A Mississippi man sustained injuries in a rollover accident last night in Willmar and faces pending charges for allegedly driving under the influence.
The accident was reported around 10 p.m. last night near the intersection of Business Highway 71 and Hawaii Street. Michael John Paxton Moritz, 31, of Biloxi, Miss., was reportedly traveling southbound on Business Highway 71 when his Chevrolet Silverado went off the road, struck and pole and overturned, according to a news release from the Willmar Police Department.
When law enforcement arrived on scene, Moritz allegedly claimed that the driver of the vehicle fled the scene. A police canine unit was called to assist in the search and was cancelled when officers determined that Moritz was allegedly the driver and lone occupant of the vehicle at the time of the crash.
Moritz was transported to Rice Memorial Hospital for injuries sustained in the crash. He faces pending charges of fourth-degree driving under the influence, third-degree refusal to test and having no Minnesota driver’s license, according to the news release.
Assisting the Willmar Police Department were Willmar Ambulance, Willmar Fire Department, Kandiyohi County Rescue Squad and the Kandiyohi County Sheriff’s Office.
