Willmar housing bucks some statewide trends
WILLMAR — Home buyers and sellers in the Willmar area can rest a bit easier after the area’s monthly housing report by the West Central Association of Realtors showed some numbers were stronger than overall state figures.
The median sales price for homes rose 1.5 percent in May — about $2,000 — and the number of closed sales shot up by about 33 percent in that timeframe, which was an increase of 28 homes.
The number of homes for sale also increased 7.8 percent compared to the same time last year.
Though the number of new home listings in Minnesota shrank by about 1.2 percent this month, the number of newly listed homes rose 7.7 percent in Willmar.
And those homes are selling in about four months, which is actually a decrease of about 15 percent compared to last May.
Nevertheless, in a news release, Realtors said the market isn’t sputtering. “This still would indicate a strong seller’s market out there, which is fairly consistent with the rest of the state, with a few exceptions,” according to the release.
