WILLMAR — Fire crews from Willmar, Kandiyohi, Spicer and Pennock are on the scene of a house fire today at 306 Litchfield Ave. S.E. in Willmar.

According to Willmar Fire Department Deputy Chief Frank Hanson, the residents of the home were inside when the fire was discovered, but were able to get out safely and call for emergency personnel.

The cause of the fire was not known, but the State Fire Marshal was expected to be called in to investigate the cause.

As of 12:30 p.m. today, firefighters were continuing to extinguish smoldering furnishings and ventilate smoke from the structure.

Willmar police and public works crews had blocked U.S. Highway 12 and redirected traffic from Sixth Street Southeast onto Benson Avenue and then onto First Street.

Also responding to the scene were the Willmar Ambulance Service, Blomkest Fire Department, Kandiyohi County Sheriff’s Office and State Patrol.
