Missing boy located after brief search in rural Spicer
SPICER—Soon after he went missing Tuesday morning, a Spicer 1 ½ year-old was located safe and sound, thanks to a 78-year-old neighbor who followed him and flagged down searchers.
"The Sheriff's Office thanks all the neighbors in the area that helped in the search," Kandiyohi County Sheriff Dan Hartog said in a message to media.
The boy was reported missing around 9:30 a.m. from the 4300 block of 133rd Ave. N.E., an address in rural Spicer nestled between several lakes.
His mother told the Kandiyohi County Sheriff's Office she had been packing items into the family vehicle when the boy wandered off with their puppy.
Luckily, just a quarter of a mile away from where the boy was reported missing, a neighbor noticed her dog barking. She looked out to see a small boy with a puppy.
The woman called out to him, but he took off towards a wooded area and slough. She followed the boy until she could flag down law enforcement and other searchers, who eventually located him and the puppy 50 yards from the slough.
According to the Sheriff's Office, the boy was returned to his parents just 20 minutes after the initial call to authorities.
