Police to host second seminar on policing in diverse communities
WILLMAR — The Willmar Police Department will host officers from the Latino Peace Officers Association's Minnesota chapter Thursday for a short event on policing in diverse communities.
The event is part seminar, part open forum. It's set for 3 p.m. today, Feb. 9., in the Kandiyohi County Health and Human Services Building's multi-purpose room.
The discussion will center around understanding differences and finding common ground as it relates to public safety, according to Willmar Police Department Capt. Michael Anderson.
After a short presentation, officers will take questions and comments. Snacks and refreshments will be provided.
"This will be a great opportunity to get a better understanding of challenges and opportunities presented to diverse communities," Anderson wrote in a news release.
Thursday's event is the second in the series to be planned yet this year. In November, Willmar police hosted Somali-American Police Association President and Columbia Heights Police Officer Mohammed Farah for a similar conversation at the Willmar Public Library.
