Update Noon: Carlos teen killed and two injured in crash near Brooten

BROOTEN - A 16-year-old girl from Carlos was killed, and a man from Alexandria and another man from Belgrade were seriously injured, in a crash Wednesday afternoon south of Brooten.

The names of the accident victims have not yet been released.

According to the Stearns County Sheriff's office, the two-vehicle crash happened around 4:32 p.m. at the intersection of Stearns County roads 18 and 19 in Crow Lake Township, about four miles south of Brooten.

The preliminary report indicates that a 2002 Dodge Neon, driven by a 16-year-old female, was going south on Stearns County Road 18 when it was struck broadside by a 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix that was going west on County Road 19 and failed to stop at the stop sign.

The Grand Prix struck the Dodge Neon in the driver's door.

The juvenile driver of the Dodge Neon was pronounced dead at the scene.

The adult male driver of the Grand Prix was transported by Life Link Air Ambulance to Centra Care Hospital in St. Cloud.

A male passenger in the Dodge Neon was transported by Brooten Ambulance to Glacial Ridge Hospital in Glenwood, and later transferred to St. Cloud by air ambulance.

Both men sustained life-threatening injuries, according to the report, which indicates one is a 20-year-old male from Alexandria and the other is a 42-year-old male from Belgrade.

The crash remains under investigation and names will be released at a later time. 

The Stearns County Sheriff's Office was assisted on the scene by the Minnesota State Patrol, Brooten Ambulance, Brooten Fire Department and Life Link Air Ambulance.
