Glencoe man sentenced to 4 years for rape

OLIVIA — A Glencoe man received a four-year prison sentence Wednesday for raping a woman in July 2016 in Buffalo Lake.

Eric Edward Dostal, 23, of Glencoe, pleaded guilty in May in Renville County District Court to a felony charge of third-degree criminal sexual conduct using force or coercion

Dostal was given credit for 10 days already served in jail and will be on conditional release for 10 years after his prison sentence. He will also be required to register as a predatory offender.

Under state guidelines, Dostal is likely to serve about two-thirds of the sentence in prison before being eligible for conditional release. Charges of first-degree criminal sexual conduct and first-degree burglary were dismissed.

According to court records, Dostal knocked on the door of the woman's residence in Buffalo Lake on July 27, 2016, but waited out of the viewing area of the peep hole. When the woman opened the door, he forced it open as she struggled to close it.

According to the complaint, they argued and he sexually assaulted her. After he left, the woman could not find her phone but used another to contact law enforcement. She suffered bruises to her arms and legs. The defendant's DNA was matched to semen recovered from the victim.
