Kandiyohi County Dairy Princess is runner-up in Princess Kay competition
- PAUL – Emily Annexstad, of St. Peter, was crowned the 64th Princess Kay of the Milky Way Wednesday night at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds.
Kandiyohi County Dairy Princess, Jessaca Zuidema, of Blomkest, was in the top three and was selected as a runner-up along with Margaret Socha, representing Wright County.
Zuidema, the daughter of Jan and Jolene Zuidema, was also one of three contestants awarded a scholarship.
Twelve county dairy princesses from throughout Minnesota competed for the Princess Kay of the Milky Way title.
Annexstad, a 19-year-old University of Minnesota student, will serve as the official goodwill ambassador for more than 3,000 Minnesota dairy farm families and will make public appearances to help connect consumers to the state’s dairy industry.
All 12 princesses will have their likeness sculpted in a 90-pound block of butter during the Minnesota State Fair. The six-hour process takes place in a rotating cooler in the Dairy Building at the fairgrounds.
Zuidema will take her turn Sept. 2.
