Fire destroys Food Garage in downtown Lake Lillian

A fire that was discovered around 3 a.m. destroyed the Food Garage in downtown Lake Lillian this morning. Firefighters from nine area departments battled the blaze. Firefighters remain on the scene.

LAKE LILLIAN - Firefighters from nine departments battled a fire that destroyed a popular gathering place in the southern Kandiyohi County community of Lake Lillian.

The early morning fire destroyed the Food Garage in downtown Lake Lillian. A resident noticed smoke around 3 a.m.  Monday. The Lake Lillian Fire Department was joined by units from Raymond, Prinsburg, Blomkest, Cosmos, Bird Island, Atwater, Kandiyohi and Willmar, according to information from Lake Lillian resident Erik Homme, a member of the ambulance squad.

Fire fighters remained on the scene Monday morning after day break. The firefighters focused efforts on protecting neighboring buildings.

Homme reported that the back half of the Food Garage building  appears to have collapsed.

Along with using the city’s water supply,  firefighters hauled water from the lake to battle the blaze.
