Willmar School Board has special meeting, work session Monday

WILLMAR — The Willmar School Board will set its preliminary 2018 property tax levy at a special meeting at 4:30 p.m. Monday at the Willmar Education and Arts Center.

The board is required to adopt a preliminary levy before the end of September by state law.

Much of the levy is determined by the Minnesota Department of Education. Voter-approved levies are also included.

The school levy will be included with city, township and county levies to determine a property's full tax bill for the coming year. The levy will be included in taxpayers' tax bills in 2018 and will fund the 2018-19 school year.

The preliminary levy is expected to be about 7.6 percent less than the 2017 levy, a decrease of about $668,000 to an $8.1 million levy to be paid in 2018.

Immediately after the special meeting, the board plans to participate in a three-hour in-service meeting on school board self-evaluation.
