Grove City man sentenced to prison for sexual assault on young girl

Christopher Allen Bengtson

LITCHFIELD — A Grove City man was sentenced Monday to more than 16 years in prison for multiple sexual assaults on a young girl.

Christopher Allen Bengtson, 42, was sentenced in Meeker County District Court on felony charges of first-degree criminal sexual conduct, for which he received 14 years and 4 months, and first-degree criminal sexual conduct by a person in a position of authority, for which he received 16 years and 6 months. Two other criminal sexual conduct charges were dismissed.

The prison sentences will be served concurrently. Bengtson is to pay fines totalling $3,765. He was given credit for 5 months already served in jail.

Bengtson will be required to register as a predatory offender.

Bengtson was charged in May after a 15-year-old girl told her school counselor that Bengtson had sexually assaulted her that morning at a residence in Union Grove Township.

According to the criminal complaint, the girl told the counselor that Bengtson had been sexually abusing her for the past three years. The girl was taken to a hospital where evidence of sexual assault was collected.

Under state sentencing guidelines, inmates must serve at least two-thirds of a sentence in custody and may be able to serve the remainder of their sentence on supervised release.
