Three injured in crash

OLIVIA — Three people were injured when a grain truck and a van collided Friday afternoon at the junction of U.S. Highway 71 and Renville County Road 11 north of Olivia.

The Minnesota State Patrol identified the driver of the truck as Jason Daniel Weisser, 40, of St. Joseph, and the van's driver as Tara Kay Rodmyre, 49, of Bird Island.

Weisser was taken to RC Hospital in Olivia for treatment of injuries. Rodmyre was transported to North Memorial Health Hospital in Robbinsdale with injuries.

A passenger in the van, 78-year-old Harriet Elaine Rodmyre, of Bird Island, also was injured and taken to RC Hospital in Olivia.

The State Patrol said Weisser was eastbound on County Road 11 and collided in the intersection with the van, which was northbound on Highway 71. All three parties were wearing their seat belts, according to the State Patrol. The crash was reported at 12:30 p.m. Friday.

Fire

BLOMKEST — A trailer stacked with hay bales caught fire Friday afternoon as it was being pulled by a truck on Minnesota Highway 7 east of Blomkest.

The blaze was reported shortly before 2:30 p.m.

Firefighters from Blomkest extinguished the flames but traffic was temporarily tied up by the fire and by the cleanup afterward. Hoses had to be used to wash the debris from the highway, which was becoming slick from a snowfall spreading across the area Friday afternoon. To prevent icing, a snowplow and chemicals also were brought in to assist.
