WILLMAR — Roth Chevrolet, Inc. of Willmar announces today the dealership has been acquired by Schwieters Chevrolet of Willmar, Inc.

For the first time in four generations, the Roth family is saying goodbye to the automobile business. The Roth family started in the automobile business in the early 1900s following the launch of the Model T with a Ford dealership in Lamberton.

In the 1940s, the family transitioned from Ford to Chevrolet. E.F. “Bear’’ Roth moved the dealership to Willmar in 1960 after partnering with Harold “Hap’’ Franta, who consolidated his Chevrolet dealership from Wabasso into the newly created Franta-Roth Chevrolet. In 1968, Bear Roth bought out Franta and Roth Chevrolet, Inc. was formed.

Mark Roth, president of Roth Chevrolet, Inc., formally started his career at the company in 1971 and he ultimately acquired the business from his father in 1985. After 42 years in the business, Mark leaves with fond memories and gratefulness for the customers and employees that made their mark on Roth Chevrolet over the years.

“I appreciate the support from the community that made Roth Chevrolet, Inc. its dealership of choice for more than 50 years,’’ said Mark Roth. “The support and contributions of our dedicated employees truly cannot be measured in words and I am confident that they will continue to serve this community exceptionally well as part of Schwieters Chevrolet of Willmar, Inc.’’

“We are honored to bring the best of what we have built in the greater St. Cloud area into the west central market,’’ said Bob Schwieters, co-founder of Schwieters Chevrolet of Willmar, Inc.

“With a strong employee base and great Chevrolet product, we will ensure that our customers continue to have the best experience possible when buying from Schwieters,’’ said Grant Schwieters, co-founder of Schwieters Chevrolet of Willmar, Inc.

While this marks the end of an era for Mark Roth, he remains confident in the road ahead for the business.

“Grant, Bob and the entire Schwieters Chevrolet of Willmar, Inc. team will be a great asset to our local economy and I look forward to watching the business thrive in the years to come under their leadership,’’ said Roth.
