Winter storm watch issued for parts of state Tuesday

Parts of west central Minnesota may see some snow late Tuesday afternoon as a low pressure system tracks northeast into Wisconsin.

The National Weather Service says there is a 30 percent chance of rain Monday afternoon in the Willmar area, with rain and snow developing late Tuesday afternoon. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

A winter storm watch has been issued for late Tuesday afternoon through Tuesday night for a large area across southern and eastern Minnesota. This includes Redwood, Meeker and Wright counties and points eastward.

Widespread moderate to heavy precipitation will develop east of a line from Redwood Falls to Clearwater to Mora late Tuesday, aided by moisture from topical storm Sonia in the eastren Pacific. Temperatures are expected to cool Tuesday afternoon and the rain will transition to snow.

It is possible for parts of the state to see 4 to 6 inches of snow by early Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service.
