Two Willmar men killed in rollover northwest of Hector

HECTOR -- Two Willmar men were killed in a rollover accident Friday afternoon in Renville County.

According to a news release from Renville County Sheriff Scott Hable, two unbelted passengers in a 2001 Dodge Caravan were ejected when the vehicle rolled over at about 3:15 p.m. Friday on Renville County Road 16, about 11 miles northwest of Hector. Jose Lopez Deleon, 31, and Julio A. Giron, 23, were pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver, 39-year-old Jose Prado-Marquez of Willmar, was traveling north when the vehicle encountered a patch of snow and ice and the driver lost control, the Sheriff's Office said. The minivan entered the ditch, where it rolled multiple times.

The driver and another passenger, 50-year-old Ramon Contreras of Willmar, were transported by ambulance to the Hutchinson Community Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver was wearing his seatbelt.

Also assisting at the scene were Hector Ambulance, Cosmos Ambulance, Allina Ambulance-Hutchinson and Hector Fire/Rescue.

The Renville County Sheriff's Office is continuing its investigation.
