MnDOT announces 2009 highway projects in District 8
WILLMAR - The Minnesota Department of Transportation today unveiled a list of 223 state highway and bridge projects that'll be completed this year.
The projects have a combined construction cost of $1.4 billion.
There are 14 projects in District 8, headquartered in Willmar, with a total construction cost of those projects is $26 million.
An additional three projects in the district that were announced earlier this year are funded through $16.9 million in stimulus money that's part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
"Over the last six years we've moved forward with more highway construction than in any other comparable period in Minnesota's history," said Gov. Tim Pawlenty.
Transportation Commissioner Tom Sorel said MnDOT is "committed to mobilizing our workers, our contractors and our partners to ensure that Minnesota's transportation dollars are spent efficiently and effectively."
Sorel said maintenance on state roads will also be increased to improve existing highway infrastructure.
