Steeped for years in Norwegian culture and language, the northern Kandiyohi County community of Sunburg will be celebrating Syttende Mai in full fashion next weekend.

At 1 p.m. Saturday, May 16, a gallery showing of the artwork of the late Jack Norman will be on display at the Kultur Hus, followed by a 2 p.m. piano concert by Carsten Bjornstad.

On Sunday the activities begin with a tractor pull at 11 a.m. at the Glacial Plains Cooperative, on the north end of town.

The boutique, which will feature arts, crafts and vendors at the Sunburg Community Center, opens at 11 a.m.

The Kultur Hus opens at noon with music and demonstrations.

A baseball game between Norway Lake-Sunburg and Starbuck begins at noon.

At 3:30 p.m. the parade down Main Street begins with more than 80 units. Organizations, like the Sunburg Troll Car Club, the County Line Tractor Club, the Arctander Aces 4-H club, school organizations, fire departments, local military veterans and area royalty will all be marching in the parade.

The firemen's supper begins at 4 p.m. at the community center/fire hall. Grilled burgers, beans, potato salad and chips are on the menu.

Old-time music by the Norseman will be provided from 5 to 7 p.m. in the community center/fire hall.

Food booths will be available at the baseball game, tractor pull and at the community center throughout the day on Sunday.
