West-Con reduces seasonal work force
HOLLOWAY -- Western Consolidated Cooperative has recently completed a spring season lay off of approximately 40 employees, according to a news release from the company on Monday.
The lay offs affect workers with the company's operations in Holloway, Appleton, Raymond, St. Leo, Kensington, Ortonville and Twin Brooks, S.D.
The company attributes the lay-offs to seasonal fluctuations in work loads and improvements that have reduced labor needs.
The company said that completion of the spring push has reduced the need for employees. The seasonal lay offs are part of the normal operating pattern that West-Con has followed for the past 25 years, the company noted.
In addition, it stated that a number of improvements have been made throughout the West-Con locations, creating internal staff efficiencies.
