Stolen handgun was not GFPD officer's

GRANITE FALLS -- A handgun reportedly stolen from a motel room in Fargo, N.D., does not belong to an officer employed by the Granite Falls Police Department.

Granite Falls Police Chief Russ Blue said the report from the Fargo Forum -- published June 10 in the West Central Tribune -- about a stolen .380 Ruger was unclear. The gun was reported to belong to a police officer from Granite Falls, but Blue said the person is not a police officer for the city of Granite Falls.

Chief Blue said he checked on the report and discovered that the handgun stolen from the C'mon Inn in Fargo belongs to an individual from the Granite Falls area.

Fargo Sgt. Ross Renner Tuesday said the officer called police at 12:40 p.m. Saturday from the C'mon Inn at 4338 20th Ave. Fargo saying he couldn't find his .380 Ruger.

Renner said it appears the gun was stolen. The case remains under investigation.
