Man faces stabbing charges in Yellow Medicine County

GRANITE FALLS -- A 26-year-old man is scheduled to be arraigned in district court in Granite Falls today after being accused of stabbing his brother on Sunday.

Erich Ryan Blue, rural Granite Falls, is charged with two felony counts of assault in the second degree, for causing substantial bodily harm and using a dangerous weapon; and for fifth degree assault against a second person.

The victim suffered three knife wounds in the back and was treated overnight at the Granite Falls Hospital for the injuries.

The complaint charges that the defendant's brother Levi Blue, his girlfriend and their son were at their father's home along Minnesota Highway 67 on the Upper Sioux reservation when the incident occurred. Erich Blue was intoxicated, and began to argue with his brother sometime after 1 a.m., according to the complaint. Erich Blue allegedly went to the kitchen and grabbed a knife with a serrated blade, approximately five-inches long.

The complaint charges that Erich Blue stabbed his brother Levi in the back while his brother held a door to defend himself. Their father shoved the defendant down and Levi fled outside with Erich in pursuit. Erich Blue is also accused of having struck his brother's girlfriend.

Levi Blue went to a neighbor's house for assistance. He required stitches for the wounds, according to the complaint.
